JUNE 19, 2018 | APRIL CUENCA
To the man who inspired us to step out of our comfort zones and into the world. Who helped us understand that our towns do not constitute the country, and our country not the world. The man who went out in pursuit of knowledge and excellence, but always in the service of others.
The man who showed us that great things can come in small packages, and no matter how aggressive others can be, we can rise above our challenges in the world and in other people, the bullies. The reigning status quo.
The man who rallied us with his thoughts in print. Who conjured an inspired love story, and hooked us on despair. Who awakened our senses to the injustices of society, and sparked the revolution.
To the man who helped us understand the pen truly is mightier than the sword, in both love and war. The man who explored the world and the many women in it. Yes, laganap ng lovelife! Who proved that the love of your life might not be the first, the second, or even the third. S/he might just not be born yet, or be in the same country.
To the man who was before his time, but was there at the right time. The man who will forever be our hero, our foundation, and inspiration. Our national hero.
Happy birthday, Dr. Jose Rizal!
